Punaú River
Dunes, coconut groves and where the Punaú River meets the sea: warm, calm, translucent waters. Relax on the sand, kayak the river, ride ATVs, go horseback riding or slide the dunes into the warm water. Local restaurant with seafood and regional dishes.
Galinhos
Quiet fishing village on a dune-separated peninsula, 85 km from São Miguel do Gostoso. Go by buggy/4×4 along the beach at low tide, or by road (requires a boat). We recommend the beach route (~3 h each way). Nature steals the show: clear beaches, dunes, salt flats and mangroves.
Must-do: boat tour with Junior Tubarão (@galinhostubarao) — mangroves, moving dunes, wildlife, traditional fishing; for lunch he harvests fresh oysters and prepares just-caught sashimi, served on a floating table. Unmissable.
Tourinhos Beach
The region’s most beautiful beach: petrified dunes (~2,500 years), semi-deserted, gentle waves, soft sand and reefs. At high tide a rock crevice shoots the “whale’s sigh.” Sunset is a show. Family-friendly: calm sea and natural pools at low tide. Food stalls serve tasty regional fare.
Quad/buggy/UTV Tours
Explore farther with buggy rides and quad trails; some agencies pick you up. The easiest way to discover every stunning beach.
Perobas Reefs
Shallow, crystal-clear natural pools with corals and abundant fish — great for snorkelling. Rafts sell skewers, soft drinks and beer. Boat trips organised on site. About 33 km from São Miguel do Gostoso.
Maracajaú Reefs
A favourite for marine-life lovers: snorkelling in clear waters; deeper dives for the experienced. First-time scuba “baptism” available with instructor. Nature lovers’ delight.
Horseback Rides
Beautiful beach rides, ideally at sunset: pure air, wide skies, birds and the sea. Gentle, easy-to-handle horses — accessible to everyone.
